FOUNDATION RAISES $120,000
BARRETT-JACKSON AUTO AUCTION WHILE DONATING WHEELCHAIR TO YOUNG BOY
Davie, FL (January 23, 2006)
Live on television at the 35th Annual Barrett-Jackson Classic Auto
Auction in Scottsdale, AZ, the Darrell Gwynn Foundation (DGF) changed a young
boy's life and then raised $80,000 in just a matter of minutes. Less than 48
hours later, another $40,000 was raised for the non-profit organization.
January 19th, The Darrell Gwynn Foundation, in conjunction with its
partner Quickie® Wheelchairs, donated a power wheelchair to nine-year Pete
Yanovitch through the organization's wheelchair give-a-way program. In a
heartfelt presentation seen live on SpeedTV, DGF gave the young Scottsdale boy
who suffers from Cerebral Palsy a Quickie Z500 power chair. Never having a
motorized chair before, the new chair is sure to be life-changing for him.
following the chair presentation, Barrett-Jackson then auctioned off a rare 1978
Chevrolet Corvette pace car, given by an anonymous donor from California. The
classic muscle car sold for $75,000, with 100% of the proceeds going to DGF.
After the Corvette was auctioned, DGF then raised an additional $5,000 from
donations in the audience. But the biggest surprise of the night came when the
gentleman who bought the car offered to donate it back to the Foundation so it
could be re-auctioned to raise additional funds. Less than 48 hours later, the
car was back on the auction block and sold for $40,000, bring the total to
$120,000 of funds that will be used for spinal cord research and quality of life
"This is truly
an exciting evening for the Darrell Gwynn Foundation", said DGF President and
Founder Darrell Gwynn. "To start the night by giving such a wonderful child a
gift that will change his life is what this foundation is about. And then to
raise $80,000 will allow us to help more children like Pete. I want to thank
Barrett-Jackson and Quickie® Wheelchair for making this night possible."
