Event benefits Darrell Gwynn Foundation and Speediatrics

HOMESTEAD, FL(November 19, 2004) Held at the Homestead-Miami Speedways infield lake, the fish were cooperative on a beautiful Friday morning at the 3rd Annual NASCAR Nextel Cup Drivers Hot Rods & Reels Charity Fishing Tournament.  The event kicked off festivities at the Ford Championship Weekend, and raised money for The Darrell Gwynn Foundation to Cure Paralysis, and the Betty Jane France Pediatric Center, Speediatrics, at Homestead Hospital

Participants fished on the Speedways 18-acre infield lake which is 60 feet deep and inhabited by trophy peacock bass and largemouth bass. NASCAR Nextel Cup driver Ken Schrader and his team caught a total of 3.89 pounds of bass, while former NASCAR champ Darrell Waltrips boat came in a close second with a weight of 3.64 pounds.  Third-place went to driver Jeff Greens boat with a total of 3.53 pounds. The excitement of the day was created by Mark Davis who caught the largest fish of the day, a peacock bass that weighed 1.74 pounds, which qualified him for a shot at $1million in the form of a one-shot drawing to win the Miccosukee Million.

Fifteen NASCAR drivers and celebrities joined with fans and corporate representatives in this year's tournament.  Participating NASCAR stars including Darrell Waltrip, Jeff Green, Mike Wallace, Tony Stewart, Richard Childress, Kyle Petty, Ken Schrader, Michael Waltrip, Bobby Labonte, Ryan Newman, and Donnie Allison.

Congratulations to Kenny Schrader and his team on winning the contest, said tournament chairman Darrell Gwynn.
