Rain in Charlotte Postpones Fridy’s Race; Saturday’s Races in Jeopardy

September 17th, 2011

CHARLOTTE – Rain postponed Friday’s scheduled match race between “Big Daddy” Don Garlits and Darrell “The Kid” Gwynn at the NHRA O’Reilly Auto Parts Nationals at the Zmax Dragway in Charlotte. Garlits and Gwynn are racing in a special charity race series called “Garlits vs. Gwynn: Match Races for a Cause” to raise awareness for the Darrell Gwynn Foundation and the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing, Inc. The Darrell Gwynn Foundation’s mission is to provide SUPPORT for people with paralysis and PREVENT spinal cord injuries.

Garlits and Gwynn were scheduled to race twice on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the NHRA O’Reilly Auto Parts Nationals, but more weather delays have  jeopardized those races. The two racers hope to at least salvage one race while in Charlotte on Sunday. The NHRA is graciously working with the Darrell Gwynn Foundation on scheduling and weather permitting, the races will take place.

Stay tuned for more updates from Charlotte.

All NHRA Races including Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorbikes are running today and fans are encouraged to come out to the zMax Dragway and enjoy the races.
