DGF RAISES $170,000 TO EXPAND SPINAL CORD INJURY AWARENESS, EDUCATION AND ASSISTANCE

September 27th, 2010

Thanks to strong support from the Barrett-Jackson family and its supporters, The Darrell Gwynn Foundation raised $170,000 on September 25th to expand its mission of Providing Awareness, Prevention, Support and Ultimately a Cure for Paralysis. Two very special vehicles were sold to benefit the Foundation during the Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Collector Car Auction. The #156 2005 Ford Mustang FR500C raced by TV star Patrick Dempsey went on the blocks first and was purchased for $70,000 by Matt Tachdjian. Tachdjian is a member of the DGF “family,” having bought the pit box at the Charity Poker Tournament to Benefit The Darrell Gwynn Foundation during Barrett-Jackson’s Orange County, CA, Auction in June.

Custom Motorized Wheelchairs
Next up was Darrell’s amazing 20th Anniversary Coors Extra Gold dragster replica, which was purchased by long-time DGF supporter Ron Pratte. Pratte bought the dragster for a fourth time with his winning bid of $100,000…putting the donations raised through this car alone to more than $800,000! Thanks to all who helped us raise such a significant amount from the Coors dragster so we can present new wheelchairs to those in need. Like 9-year-old Las Vegas resident Axel Maldonado, who has muscular dystrophy and is confined to a wheelchair. During Barrett-Jackson, Darrell and the Foundation presented Axel with a $23,000 custom, motorized chair that provides him the gift of independent mobility.

“To give a new set of wheels to a youngster with the name Axel – well, it doesn’t get any better than that!” Darrell exclaimed onstage. But there’s no need to wait for special events such as Barrett-Jackson. Your donation today can help youngsters like Axel live life to their fullest.
