The Darrell Gwynn Foundation’s mission is to provide SUPPORT for people with paralysis and PREVENT spinal cord injuries.

Jose is diagnosed with Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy. His old power wheelchair was 15 years-old and runs on a bicycle chain and is broken forcing his family to push him everywhere. Jose is unable to go to school because he does not have the proper wheelchair he needs. The wheelchair donation by the Darrell Gwynn Foundation will give Jose the gifts of mobility, independence and freedom he deserves and allow him to return to school to continue his education.

During his presentation at the Homestead-Miami Speedway Jose had a chance to meet NASCAR stars Michael Waltrip, Ryan Newman, Joe Nemecheck, Clint Bowyer, Leonard Woods, Trevor Bayne, Carl Edwards and Disney Channel superstar actress Zendaya Coleman who all spent time with Jose at the racetrack.

The wheelchair donation was made through the Darrell Gwynn Foundation’s national Wheelchair Donation Program which donates custom power wheelchairs to individuals facing medical and financia hardships. The donation was part of the Darrell Gwynn Foundation’s Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week (SCIAW) campaign. It was one of four wheelchair donations to deserving Floridians throughout the State of Florida this week.
