MIAMI – The Darrell Gwynn Foundation, on behalf of its donors and supporters, made a $10,000 gift to the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis on Friday, November 15. The gift was made in observance of Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week (SCIAW). The Darrell Gwynn Foundation’s mission is to provide SUPPORT to people with paralysis and PREVENT spinal cord injuries.

The donation was made through the foundation’s Patient Assistance Fund which helps provide funds and tools for patients recovering for spinal cord injuries. The Darrell Gwynn Foundation maintains the Fast Track Laboratory at the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis in an effort to join the fight to find a cure for paralysis.

DGF co-founder Dr. Lisa Gwynn along with Marc Buoniconti were on hand for the check presentation at the Luis Pope Life Center in Miami.

The foundation and Darrell and Lisa personally have a long history and relationship with the Miami Project. As a race care driver, Darrell in cooperation with his sponsor Coors, gave a portion of their winnings on the NHRA circuit to the Miami Project adopting it as their official charity in the late 80′s and 90′s before his accident. Darrell of course became a patient and advocate for the Miami Project after his accident.  Lisa Gwynn did some of her clinicals at the Miami Project as a medical school student.

The donation marked one of two gifts made by DGF during SCIAW with the other being a donation to the Speediatrics Unit at Homestead Hospital with proceeds from the Hot Rods & Reels Charity Fishing Tournament.
