DGF to Donate $9,000 Wheelchair to 4 year-old Camron Vaughn of Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS – The Darrell Gwynn Foundation will auction a Pure Power Motorsports custom built “Barrett-Cuda” tribute car at Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino on Friday, September 23, Lot #370.1. The car is a 1971 Plymouth Barracuda that the Pure Power Motorsports team has rebuilt into the ultimate tribute car to commemorate Barrett-Jackson’s 40th Anniversary. All proceeds from the sale of this car will benefit the Darrell Gwynn Foundation whose mission is to provide SUPPORT for those with paralysis and PREVENT spinal cord injuries.

“We’re really proud to be rolling this car across the Barrett-Jackson stage,” says Darrell Gwynn, President of the Darrell Gwynn Foundation. “It’s a tribute to Barrett-Jackson, an organization that has meant so much to the Darrell Gwynn Foundation. We’ll be donating another wheelchair and changing another person’s life at the auction thanks to the support of Barrett-Jackson. I also thank Mike Langston and all the donors and builders for making this project happen.”

In addition to the “Barrett-Cuda” car, the winning bidder will receive a complimentary Bob Bondurant School of High-Performance Driving class courtesy of Bondurant. Featuring the Corvette Coupe, this course combines advanced street driving skills with proven racing techniques to give students a hands-on experience like no other. A great one-day program for the race enthusiast and the ideal follow up class for Lap the Oval, RPM, and Performance Driving Experience with graduates offering instruction on skid control, proper line techniques, accident avoidance and on track driving.

The car is being built by longtime Darrell Gwynn Foundation supporters Mike Langston and Dick Koch of Pure Power Motorsports and donated for auction at Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas. The car is a 1-of-1 special edition, Grand Touring type model, with a new Hemi engine, widened rear quarters and painted in Barrett-Jackson’s colors. The 1971 Plymouth Barracuda shell was donated by Scott Milestone and the 572 Hemi Engine was donated by Tom & Cindy Wright, discounted by Mopar and built by Gary Stanton.

The winning bidder will ride in comfort in a Year One supplied interior, sitting in Panoz Automotive Development powered bucket seats, cooled by Vintage AC. Upholstery and interior upgrades will be done by Slick Creations inside a custom Pure Power Motorsports 71 Cuda body wrap in AMD metal, paint powder coating by Performance Coatings, Bizzar Builds-n-Customs paintjob with the embedded 40th Anniversary Barrett-Jackson colors sitting atop a Hedges Performance chassis, using C5/C6 Corvette suspension components and Mustang Cobra brakes, AGS Company brake and fuel lines, custom half-shafts by Drive Shaft Shop with the specially built Gary Stanton 572 Chrysler Hemi power plant, dynoed at 650 hp/660 lbft, mated to a 6 speed G-Force manual transmission, applying power through the Viper Dana 44 IRS rear end, and rolling on Toyo’s Proxes R888 tires mounted on Custom Foose wheels, sporting 335/18 tires in the “tubbed” rear end and 235/18s in the front.

In addition to auctioning the “Barrett-Cuda” tribute car, the Darrell Gwynn Foundation will make a wheelchair donation to 4 year-old Camron Vaughn of Las Vegas on stage at Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas. The wheelchair the foundation donates will match the special “Barrett-Cuda” car donning the same paint job and Barrett-Jackson 40th Anniversary logo. Camron is diagnosed with cerebral palsy. His father retired from the military and lost some of his insurance benefits which made it difficult for the family to obtain a power wheelchair for Camron. The Darrell Gwynn Foundation, on behalf of its donors, will donate a $9,000 power wheelchair to Camron. His new wheelchair will give him the support he needs and allow Camron to be more mobile as he gets older and his cerebral palsy likely advances.

Darrell Gwynn Foundation supporters and fans of classic and high-performance cars can watch the Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas auto auction and wheelchair donation LIVE on SPEED at approximately 4 p.m. EST.

About the Darrell Gwynn Foundation
Founded in 2002 by Champion Racer Darrell Gwynn and his wife, Lisa, the Darrell Gwynn Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to provide SUPPORT for people living with paralysis and PREVENT spinal cord injuries. The foundation’s primary support program is its national Wheelchair Donation Program. With this program the Darrell Gwynn Foundation has donated custom built wheelchairs to hundreds of individuals in need. The foundation also maintains a Patient Assistance Fund offering support services and tools at Craig Hospital in Englewood, Colorado with aspirations to expand this model to several hospitals nationwide. The Patient Assistance Fund also supports the Betty Jane France Pediatric Center, at Halifax Hospital in Daytona, Fla. and Homestead Hospital in Homestead, Fla. Additionally, the Patient Assistance Fund provides financial support through its Fast Track Laboratory with the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis aimed at finding a cure for paralysis. The foundation operates an Education & Prevention Program directed to high school students to educate them on the dangers of risky behavior that can lead to spinal cord injuries. This rapidly growing program reaches over 10,000 students annually at over 50 high schools. In an effort to create more awareness about spinal cord injuries, the Darrell Gwynn Foundation successfully lobbied for an established Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week with a resolution passed by the Florida Legislature in 2006. With tremendous fundraising partners such as Barrett-Jackson, the NHRA, NASCAR, Rolltisserie and many more generous sponsors, individual supporters and donors, the Darrell Gwynn Foundation continues to evolve as a leading foundation for those with spinal cord injuries.
