DAVIE, Fla. – The Darrell Gwynn Foundation, whose mission is to provide SUPPORT for people with paralysis and PREVENT spinal cord injuries, was recently introduced to a new mobility technology that allows people confined to wheelchairs to explore the outdoors in newly designed Action TrackChairs. These Action TrackChairs give people the freedom of hunting, hiking, going to the beach, fishing, and other similar activities. The Action Trackchair enables people to have access to those types of activities.

“I love to fish and I’m really excited to be learning more about these new Action TrackChairs,” said Darrell Gwynn, president of the Darrell Gwynn Foundation. “So many people are outdoorsmen, especially in the circles we gain support from. I know how special it can be for someone to have the opportunity to get back out into the woods or on a beach with this type of wheelchair technology. We are in the process of learning about these new wheelchairs and discussing ways we can make them available to people.”

The Darrell Gwynn Foundation already does work in this area with its current programs. Donating high-tech custom power wheelchairs to individuals facing medical and financial hardships through its Wheelchair Donation Program and working to prevent spinal cord injuries with common sense tips while enjoying the vast outdoors and recreation the State of Florida offers with its Education & Prevention Program. Getting involved in making Action TrackChairs available is a natural fit for the foundation.

“A lot of our supporters and a lot of organizations have reached out to us and are interested in us getting involved with these Action TrackChairs,” said Kristen Fitzgerald, executive director of the Darrell Gwynn Foundation. “We are excited about adding this program service to our offerings and working with organizations and donors that are energized by the potential.”

Last month, the Darrell Gwynn Foundation was invited by Scott Griffin, president and founder of ACI Insurance Services and member of North Carolina Sportsman’s Caucus Advisory Board, to attend the grand opening of the National Firearms Museum located at Bass Pro Shops in Springfield, Missouri. Griffin, an advocate of the outdoors and conservation is also a former NHRA top fuel team owner and shares DGF’s mission to support people living with paralysis.

At that event, the Darrell Gwynn Foundation donated its first Action TrackChair for use by outdoorsman in Missouri and Darrell Gwynn made a grand entrance in an Action TrackChair greeting Scott and Bass Pro Shops founder John L. Morris on stage. All in attendance were excited about Darrell’s appearance at the event and the foundation’s donation of an Action TrackChair.

Since that event, several conversations between multiple organizations spearheaded by Griffin have taken place about ways to fundraise for Action TrackChairs and make them available, possibly via rentals, to people confined to wheelchairs so they can enjoy the outdoors. The Darrell Gwynn Foundation is willing to fundraise and increase awareness of the program for these Action TrackChairs as the program unfolds and moves forward. The goal of the Darrell Gwynn Foundation is to partner with like-minded organizations to make these Action TrackChairs more available to people.
