January 20th, 2012

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Darrell Gwynn Foundation, on behalf of its donors, donated an $18,000 custom power wheelchair to 17 year-old Diego Sanchez of Peoria, Ariz while on stage live on SPEED at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale on Friday, January 20.  Sanchez’s family did not have health insurance and was unable to obtain the proper power wheelchair he needed. Sanchez, an honor student in high school, needed the power wheelchair so he can finish school and enroll in college where he plans to study marketing. The Darrell Gwynn Foundation’s mission is to provide SUPPORT for people with paralysis and PREVENT spinal cord injuries.

“This is really exciting,” said Diego Sanchez in his brand new Arizona Diamondbacks themed wheelchair. “My family tried for so long to get me the wheelchair I needed and today is a dream come true thanks to the Darrell Gwynn Foundation.”

The Darrell Gwynn Foundation auctioned two custom-built DieHard Battery powered electric dragsters driven by NHRA legends “Big Daddy” Don Garlits and Darrell Gwynn at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale. Longtime foundation supporter Ron Pratte purchased the cars for $150,000 which will help support people living with paralysis and PREVENT spinal cord injuries. The funds raised from the cars will primarily benefit the Darrel Gwynn Foundation’s national Wheelchair Donation Program.
