Darrell Gwynn Foundation Announces Hiring of Gonzalez & Moreno

DAVIE, Fla. – The Darrell Gwynn Foundation announced the hiring of Julie Gonzalez and Micah Moreno this week as new executive director Dr. Lisa Gwynn begins to build a staff to elevate the foundation’s capabilities and fulfill its mission to SUPPORT people with paralysis and PREVENT spinal cord injuries.

“Adding Julie, a very talented professional with a variety of skills, will really boost the foundation’s efforts,” said Lisa Gwynn. “She’s someone whose work we’ve admired for years and we are excited to have her join our team. She will help fill a lot of roles for us and help us be a stronger organization.”

“We’re excited to bring Micah on board as well,” said Gwynn. “As an intern at DGF she embraced the organization and its mission and really impressed us with her work ethic and database management skills. She too will help us build in an area we have been lacking.”

Julia “Julie” Gonzalez, Administrator/Foundation Relations
Julia Gonzalez joins the Darrell Gwynn Foundation in 2012 as its Administrator/Foundation Relations. In this role she manages the foundations finances and human resources. She also serves as a liaison with donors and coordinates the planning and execution of the foundation’s fundraising events. Gonzalez brings to the foundation a great deal of experience working in a variety of roles for organizations.

Prior to joining the Darrell Gwynn Foundation she served as hospitality coordinator and assistant to the owners for Kenny Bernstein Racing from 2007-2011. There she coordinated/oversaw the team’s trackside hospitality program, sponsor and sponsor guest relations as well as guest ticket needs and team travel. She served as assistant to both team owners, and worked on several special projects including team merchandise and team apparel.

In her career she has also worked as an administrator for the Professional Racers Owners Organization (2006-07) and served in administrator and director’s roles for Carrier Boyz Racing (2004-06), Darrell Gwynn Racing (1998-2004), NASDAQ Dispute Resolution (1996-98), MedX, Inc. (1988-1996) and Coral Gables Hospital (1986-88).

Born in New London, Conn., Julie grew up in North Miami, Fla., and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Florida International University in 2002. She also earned an Associates of Arts Degree from Broward College in 1998. She currently resides in Cooper City, Fla. with her fiancé Todd Smith.

Micah Moreno, Development Coordinator
Micah Moreno joined the Darrell Gwynn Foundation as its Development Assistant in 2011, primarily aiding the foundation in its development and database management efforts. In 2012, she was elevated to a full-time role as Development Coordinator. Moreno manages the Darrell Gwynn Foundation’s donor database, oversees donor relations, assist in executing the foundation’s development campaigns and serves as the foundation’s copy editor.

Prior to joining the Darrell Gwynn Foundation Moreno served as a writing consultant for the Nova Southeastern University Office of Academic Services. There she guided graduate and undergraduate students through the brainstorming, writing and revising process. She also spent time as an office assistant in the university’s tutoring office.

A native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Moreno is a graduate of Nova Southeastern University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts in Humanities. She was a member of the Dean’s List and the school’s Honors Program. She is currently enrolled at Florida Atlantic University and working toward her Master’s Degree in Arts & English. Micah enjoys reading and volunteers her time working with children with special needs at ARC Broward Preschool in Sunrise, Fla. She resides in Fort Lauderdale with her cat, Bayley.
