April 20th, 2011

DAVIE, Fla. – The Darrell Gwynn Foundation announced that Charles “Chuck” Blossom has been named new Chairman of the Board of Directors on Wednesday, April 20. Blossom takes over for Darrell Gwynn who served as previous chairman. Blossom was elected chairman by his fellow Darrell Gwynn Foundation board members in April 2011. The Darrell Gwynn Foundation’s mission is to provide AWARENESS, PREVENTION, SUPPORT and ultimately a CURE for Paralysis.

“I am both honored and pleased to accept the position of chair of the Board of Directors of the Darrell Gywnn Foundation,” said Chuck Blossom.  “On behalf of the Board, we look forward to expanding our primary role of oversight and guidance as the Foundation continues to grow.  All of our efforts will be focused on assisting the team in achieving its mission of” being an effective voice for public awareness of the causes of spinal cord injury and prevention of those injuries throughout the world.”

“As our foundation continues to grow and we embark on many new fundraising ventures it was important to have a chairman with great experience and vision,” said Darrell Gwynn. “This gives me the opportunity to focus on my role as president and serve the foundation best and gives us the benefit of a new chairman with incredible not-for-profit experience to guide the foundation as we work toward our mission to prevent spinal cord injuries and support those living with them.”

Prior to embarking on his encore career as Chief Executive Officer of Boone Center, Inc, a facility based employment center for developmentally disabled adults, Chuck worked in various automotive manufacturing operations.  After completing his education at the University of Missouri, he joined the Black & Decker Manufacturing Company, selling and marketing tools and equipment to the Automotive Aftermarket.  In 1982, Chuck and his wife, Pam, founded American Pneumatic Technologies, Inc., a private label niche manufacturer of air operated hand-held tools. The business prospered and was sold to The Stanley Works in September of 1989. Chuck served as President of Mac Tools, Inc. (a division of The Stanley Works) until 1996, at which time he consulted for various companies, including NHRA, Action Performance, and Tailored Management.

Chuck currently lives in Lake St. Louis, Missouri with his wife, Pam. Their two children, Kevin and Kate are both married and live in Charlotte, N.C. and Warrenton, Missouri, respectively.

About the Darrell Gwynn Foundation

Founded in 2002 by Champion Drag Racer Darrell Gwynn and his wife Lisa, the Darrell Gwynn Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to provide AWARENESS, PREVENTION, SUPPORT and ultimately a CURE for paralysis. In an effort to create more awareness about spinal cord injuries, the Darrell Gwynn Foundation successfully lobbied for an established Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week with a resolution passed by the Florida Legislature in 2006. The foundation operates an Education & Prevention Program directed to high school students to educate them on the dangers of risky behavior that can lead to spinal cord injuries. This rapidly growing program reaches over 10,000 students annually at over 50 high schools. The foundation’s primary support program is its national Wheelchair Donation Program. With this program the Darrell Gwynn Foundation has donated custom built wheelchairs to hundreds of individuals in need. The foundation also maintains a model Patient Assistance Fund offering support services and tools at Craig Hospital in Englewood, Colorado with aspirations to expand this model to several hospitals nationwide. The Paralyzed Assistance Fund also supports the Betty Jane France Pediatric Center, at Halifax Hospital in Daytona, Fla. and Homestead Hospital in Homestead, Fla. Additionally the foundation provides financial support through its Fast Track Laboratory with the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis aimed at finding a cure for paralysis. With tremendous fundraising partners such as Barrett-Jackson, the NHRA, NASCAR and many more generous sponsors, individual supporters and donors, the Darrell Gwynn Foundation continues to evolve as a leading foundation for those with spinal cord injuries.
