Barrett-Jackson Auction Raises $100,000 for DGF, 3-year old gets Life-Changing Wheelchair

August 7th, 2014

Ella MariniReno, NV-The Barrett-Jackson Auction brought wheels for more than just car buffs this past weekend. Ford Motor Company auctioned a 2014 Ford Transit Connect Titanium Wagon during the Hot August Nights Auction presented by Barrett-Jackson on Saturday, August 2nd at approximately 2pm. The vehicle was modified by MobilityWorks to allow access by wheelchair users and raised $100,000.00 to support the Darrell Gwynn Foundation’s mission.

Along with the standard features of the 2014 Ford Transit Connect Titanium, the MobilityWorks conversion package includes a specially designed rear hatch with a power-lift ramp to secure space for a passenger in a powered wheelchair.

Directly following the sale of the Ford, the Darrell Gwynn Foundation gave the gift of mobility to 3-yr old Ella Marini of Reno, NV by donating a custom power wheelchair. Ella is the daughter of Jennifer and Tony Marini of Hot August Nights.

“I jumped at the chance when I heard about Ella’s diagnosis and knew there was something we could do to help,” said Darrell Gwynn, President of the Darrell Gwynn Foundation. “We wouldn’t be where we are today without the support of the Barrett-Jackson family and are delighted to help someone so close to them.”

Ella was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis and was not eligible to receive a power wheelchair from her medical insurance. The “Frozen”-themed, Permobil C300 custom power wheelchair with power tilt and power seat elevator, will allow Ella to develop as a typical 3-yr old. She will no longer have to rely on an adult to move her around.
