5th ANNUAL
MICCOSUKEE RESORT & GAMING "HOT RODS & REELS", CHARITY
FISHING TOURNAMENT SET FOR NOVEMBER 18TH:
PARTICIPATING NASCAR
STARS & FANS HAVE CHANCE TO WIN "THE MICCOSUKEE MILLION"
MIAMI (October 30, 2006) , The 5th Annual
Miccosukee Resort & Gaming "Hot Rods & Reels", charity
fishing tournament, scheduled for Saturday November 18th
at 8:30 a.m., offers what many would consider a
perfect trifecta for fun: fishing for trophy bass
alongside NASCAR NEXTEL Cup drivers and other racing
celebrities with the chance to win The Miccosukee
Million.
The
fundraiser for the Darrell Gwynn Foundation to Cure
Paralysis and the Betty Jane France Pediatric Center,
Speediatrics?/span>,
at Homestead Hospital will be held at Homestead-Miami
Speedway's infield lake as part of the Ford Championship
Weekend and Florida's first Spinal Cord Injury Awareness
Week.
"With
the help of the Homestead-Miami Speedway, the Miccosukee
Resort & Gaming, and our celebrity participants, this
event provides a really special opportunity for racing
fans and fishing enthusiasts to have a great time while
raising money for some great causes," said Darrell
Gwynn, President of the Darrell Gwynn Foundation (DGF)
and event founder. "We are really excited to tie this
year's event with Florida's Spinal Cord Injury Awareness
Week and hope that events such as this one will help
raise awareness of how to prevent paralysis and efforts
to find a cure."
Hot
Rods & Reels" will take place on the Speedway's 18-acre
infield lake, which is 60 feet deep and stocked with
trophy-size peacock bass and largemouth bass. Because of
its unique location and outstanding fishing, the lake
has been featured on ESPN's "Great Outdoors" and in the
Miami Herald.
"The
Miccosukee Hot Rods & Reels Fishing Tournament has
become one of the premier events during Ford
Championship Weekend," said Curtis Gray, President of
Homestead-Miami Speedway. "We are honored to host
everyone from The Darrell Gwynn Foundation,
Speediatrics, drivers, and participants at our world
famous infield lake at Homestead-Miami Speedway."
The Hot Rods & Reels tournament rules are simple: The
boat with the heaviest combined largemouth bass or
peacock bass weight wins the tournament. However, the
individual who reels in the heaviest fish in the
tournament has the chance to select from one of 250
envelopes, one of which contains the $1 million grand
prize. An official weigh-in determining the winning fish
will immediately precede the prize drawing. Each
driver/celebrity will be teamed with two guest anglers
in their own bass boat featuring an International Game
Fish Association (IGFA) recognized guide. Because space
is limited people interested in participating should
visit

early to register for the event. This year's tournament
features an 8:30 a.m. start, allowing ample fishing
before the track gets hot at 1:00 p.m. for the start of
NASCAR Nextel Cup practice.
Both a
fan and celebrity favorite, Hot Rods & Reels draws some

Earlier
this year, the DGF was involved in the initiative to have
November 13 - 19, 2006 declared as the first Florida Spinal
Cord Injury Awareness Week. Because Florida has numerous,
year-long, outdoor activities that lend themselves to spinal
cord injuries, increased awareness of how these injuries
occur and tips for preventing them is particularly important
in the state. DGF has numerous public educational activities
planned through the week, including presentations in high
schools, a radio and television PSA campaign and events
including Hot Rods and Reels.
The Darrell
Gwynn Foundation is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization
dedicated to preventing paralysis when possible, providing
support for individual's living with paralysis and
ultimately finding a cure for paralysis. To expedite
specific cures, the Foundation assists in the funding of
targeted research.
The Betty
Jane France Pediatric Center, Speediatrics?/span>,
at Homestead Hospital is a completely renovated pediatrics
unit designed with a motorsports theme. The only dedicated
pediatric unit in deep South Miami-Dade, its design is to
make children feel as comfortable as possible during a
hospital stay.
The 5th
Annual Miccosukee Resort & Gaming "Hot Rods & Reels", NASCAR
NEXTEL Cup Drivers & Teams Charity Fishing Tournament takes
place during the Ford Championship Weekend, November 17-19th
