TONY STEWART NAMED HONORARY BOARD MEMBER FOR THE DARRELL GWYNN FOUNDATION

Ft. Lauderdale, FL:  The Darrell Gwynn Foundation (DGF) announced that world-renowned NASCAR champion Tony Stewart was named an honorary board member for the organization.  Stewart, one of the most decorated drivers in racing, is the winner of 27 Winston/Nextel Cup races and numerous other racing championships.

"We are delighted to have Tony as part of our board of directors," said Darrell Gwynn, founder of the DGF. "Tony has supported me and my Foundation since its inception, and his dedication to help so many good causes is well-known. We are proud to have him as an honorary board member, particularly as we approach Florida Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week."

"I am honored to now officially be a part of the Darrell Gwynn Foundation," noted Stewart. "DGF is doing great things in different areas of spinal cord injuries and has grown tremendously over the past years."

Tony Stewart made a splash on the racing scene and was the USAC rookie of the year in 1991 and the National Midget series champion in 1994. In 1995, Stewart became the first driver to win USAC's version of the Triple Crown, earning championships in all three of USAC's major divisions, National Midget, Sprint, and Silver Crown. He was NASCAR Rookie of the Year in 1999, NASCAR Winston Cup Champion in 2002 and NASCAR Nextel Cup Champion in 2005.

Florida Spinal Cord Injury Awareness week is a weeklong series of events and educational outreach from November 13th through the 19th.  Throughout this campaign, Stewart will appear in a series of public service announcements with Darrell Gwynn, featuring various injury prevention tips. The campaign will culminate the weekend of November 18th and 19th with DGF's 5th Annual Miccosukee Resort & Gaming's Hot Rods & Reels NASCAR Drivers Charity Fishing Tournament at Homestead-Miami Speedway's infield lake, plus a charity walk around the Homestead-Miami Speedway track put on by the NASCAR Foundation. NASCAR celebrities, including Stewart, will be participating.

The Darrell Gwynn Foundation is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization dedicated to preventing paralysis when possible, providing support for individuals living with paralysis and ultimately finding a cure for paralysis.
