SHOT AT $1 MILLION, TROPHY BASS DRAWS
NASCAR STARS & FANS TO
HOT RODS &
REELS CHARITY TOURNAMENT
MIAMI - September 23,
2004Racing fans and NASCAR NEXTEL Cup drivers and
celebrities participating in the 3rd Annual Hot Rods & Reels charity fishing
tournament will fish for trophy bass and a chance to win $1 million. The
fundraiser for the Darrell Gwynn Foundation to Cure Paralysis and the Betty
Jane France Pediatric Center, Speediatrics?/span>,
at Homestead Hospital will be held on Friday, November 19th at
Homestead-Miami Speedway's infield lake as part of the Ford Championship
Weekend.
Under the rules of this
year's tournament, the angler successfully landing the heaviest largemouth
bass or peacock bass will then select from one of 250 envelopes, one of
which containing the $1 million grand prize. An official weigh-in
determining the winning fish will immediately precede the prize drawing.
Tournament organizers
will provide two spots on each fishing boat available for corporate or
private purchase, with participants having the opportunity to fish with the
likes of NASCAR NEXTEL Cup champions Tony Stewart, Terry Labonte, Dale
Jarrett, Bobby Labonte, plus other leading NASCAR NEXTEL Cup drivers. The
tournament also features fishing opportunities with other racing celebrities
including legendary team owner Richard Childress, and former NASCAR NEXTEL
Cup champs turned broadcasters Darrell Waltrip and Benny Parsons, among
others.
The tournament will take
place on the Speedway's 18-acre infield lake, which is 60 feet deep and
stocked with trophy-size peacock bass and largemouth bass. Because of its
unique location and outstanding fishing, the lake has been featured on
ESPN's "Great Outdoors" and the Miami Herald.
"The previous Hot Rods &
Reels tournaments were a hit in terms of participation, fun and monies
raised for charity," said event founder Darrell Gwynn. "This year's outing
features even more excitement with a Friday morning start that will find
both the fish and fisherman ready for action!"
"The Hot Rods &Reels
fishing tournament merges two sports that seem to go hand-in-hand: NASCAR
NEXTEL Cup racing and bass fishing during one of the biggest weekend's in
all of motorsports: Ford Championship Weekend," said Curtis Gray, President,
Homestead-Miami Speedway. "We encourage race fans and anglers alike to
participate in this unique event benefiting two outstanding charities: the
Darrell Gwynn Foundation and Speediatrics?/span>.
