500-THEMED AUCTION ITEMS AND DONATIONS RAISE RECORD FUNDS FOR
THE DARRELL GWYNN FOUNDATION AT BARRETT-JACKSON AUTO AUCTION
Unique Eliminator Boat, poster and donations raise more than
$210,000 for the foundation
WEST PALM BEACH/DAVIE, FL – (April 1, 2008) – Proceeds from the auction of a
one-of-a-kind powerboat and Barrett-Jackson ‘08 Scottsdale
poster, as well as other donations generated more than $210,000
at the Florida edition of the famed Barrett-Jackson Auto
Auction, with all dollars benefiting the Darrell Gwynn
Foundation to Cure Paralysis (DGF). This sum represents the
largest total ever generated on behalf of the Foundation by the
West Palm Beach auction. Tom Gonzales won the bid for this
amazing boat, which features the signatures of all drivers from
the starting line-up of February’s Daytona 500. The fully custom
racing-themed craft, built to commemorate last month’s 50th
running of the Daytona 500, was donated to the Gwynn Foundation
by famed premium boat builder Eliminator Boats in anticipation
of the March 29th auction.
Officially named the “Eliminator Daytona,”
the 26’10” boat was created to capture and reflect the
excitement associated with the iconic Daytona 500. Designed
with Eliminator’s signature style, the commemorative boat is
packed with numerous upgrades and is designated the Official
Recreational Power Boat of Daytona International Speedway. It
seats six, weighs 4,500 pounds and is powered by an Ilmor
Engineering Viper V10 engine producing a hefty 625-horsepower.
The boat also features custom upholstery and gel coat graphics
incorporating the 50th anniversary Daytona 500
official logo.

“We are eternally indebted to Eliminator
Boats for gifting our charity with such an enormous and unique
donation,” said Darrell Gwynn, founder and president of the
Darrell Gwynn Foundation. “If not for organizations like
Eliminator, and our long-standing and extremely generous
benefactor in Barrett-Jackson, we would not be able to fund
critical medical research or provide life-changing wheelchair
donations to those in need.”
The boat up for auction was on prominent
display on Lake Lloyd at Daytona International Speedway in
conjunction with the 50th running of the “The Great
American Race” in February. That same infield lake played host
to another major fundraiser for the Gwynn Foundation, the
Miccosukee Resort & Gaming “Hot Rods & Reels®” Charity Fishing
Tournament. While at the Speedway, the boat was personally
autographed by every driver in the starting line-up of the 50th
anniversary Daytona 500. The list includes
the likes of such current and former NASCAR champions as Jimmie
Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Ryan Newman and Tony Stewart along with
other celebrity and racing luminaries, making the boat like none
other and adding to its substantial collector value.
As part of its official activities during
its West Palm Beach auction, Barrett-Jackson officials welcomed
members of the Darrell Gwynn Foundation to its stage in order to
present a custom power wheelchair to four-year-old Seth Cohen of
Davie, Florida. DGF found Seth through its new partnership with
a local organization, Florida S.N.A.P.

“The support of Barrett-Jackson as one of
its official charities means the world to our foundation,” said
Gwynn. “They are a perfect partner in allowing us to use their
unique platform to raise awareness about paralysis and to
provide aid and support.”
