BARRETT - JACKSON AUTO AUCTION RAISES MORE
THAN $200,000 FOR THE DARRELL GWYNN FOUNDATION
Annual fundraiser nets record total to help in
the
quality of life, education and prevention of
paralysis
Davie, FL, (January 29,
2007), The Darrell Gwynn Foundation (DGF) announced another
successful session at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Auto Auction in
Scottsdale, Arizona, where more than $200,000 was raised for the
organization. The auction, televised live on the SPEED network
attracted a variety of celebrities in the sports and entertainment
arenas who helped make this event a record-breaking one for the
organization. DGF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to
preventing paralysis when possible, providing support for
individual's living with paralysis and ultimately finding a cure for
paralysis. The Foundation is an official charity of
Barrett-Jackson.
"As in years past, we deeply
appreciate the support from Barrett-Jackson and their assistance in
raising funds to continue our mission," said DGF president Darrell
Gwynn. "We are grateful for Barrett-Jackson's efforts on our
behalf, and for the compassionate unselfishness of the guests and
bidders at the auction."
The DGF auction began with the
auctioning of a 1990 Chevy 454 - SS pick up truck. After
lively bidding, the truck sold for $57,000. NASCAR great and
DGF board member Tony Stewart threw in an extra $10,000 for the
foundation in the winning bidder's name. In addition, a
one-of-a-kind Barrett-Jackson poster donated by Glenn Annarumma and
signed by all of the celebrities in attendance, including Gwynn,
Alice Cooper, Tony Stewart, Goldberg, Bret Michaels, Chuck Zito,
Linda Vaughn, Tim Allen and Sir George Martin was also put on the
auction block. The bidding for the poster culminated in an
additional $40,000 raised for DGF.
However, the spirit of generosity did
not end with the bidding as the celebrities and other audience
members themselves contributed various amounts. That, in
connection with the money donated from passing the hat earned DGF
just over $200,000.
"The Barrett Jackson Collector Auto
Auction is truly unique," added Gwynn. "The company never
fails to help us in unexpected and extraordinary ways."
