BARRETT-JACKSON AUTO AUCTION
TO AUCTION OFF JOE GIBBS RACING-PREPARED STOCK CAR DRIVEN BY
TONY STEWART TO BENEFIT THE DARRELL GWYNN FOUNDATION
Three-Time Race-Winning Car Goes on the Block for Fans
DAVIE, Fla. (Jan. 3,
2008) – The Darrell Gwynn Foundation (DGF) announced that Joe
Gibbs Racing (JGR) has donated a No. 20 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
driven by Tony Stewart in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series to the
Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction. The event takes place Jan. 12-20
in Scottsdale, Ariz., with this car expected to go on the block
Jan. 18, lot number 1012.
The auction,
scheduled to be televised live on the SPEED network,
historically attracts a variety of celebrities in the sports and
entertainment arenas. In years past, the Scottsdale auction has
contributed record-breaking funds to the Foundation. DGF is a
non-profit organization dedicated to preventing paralysis when
possible, providing support for individuals living with
paralysis, and ultimately finding a cure for paralysis. The
Foundation is an official charity of Barrett-Jackson.
“We are deeply
grateful to Joe Gibbs Racing and team president J.D. Gibbs and
Tony Stewart for providing this exciting car for bid, and of
course, consistently appreciative for the support we receive
from Barrett-Jackson and their assistance in raising funds to
continue our mission,” said DGF president Darrell Gwynn. “This
is always an outstanding event with generosity in large supply,
and we are honored to be a part of it.”
The car donated by
JGR is Chassis No. 120. In 14 career starts during a one-year
span that began Sept. 3, 2006 at California Speedway in Fontana
and ended Sept. 2, 2007 at the very same track, Chassis No. 120
won three races (Kansas on Oct. 1, 2006; Atlanta on Oct. 29,
2006; and Texas on Nov. 5, 2006), led 650 laps, scored six
top-fives and 10 top-10s, logged an average finish of eighth,
and completed all but three of the 3,915 laps available. It is
valued at more than $100,000
Stewart is a board
member of the Darrell Gwynn Foundation and he will be present at
the auction. The event will also feature a wheelchair
presentation to an Arizona individual in need of a new
wheelchair, also seen live on SPEED network. DGF donates
wheelchairs to children and young adults across the country to
provide them with the mobility necessary to live independent
lives.
